Soldiers returning home from Korea and, more notably, Vietnam, were not properly thanked upon their return to the United States from war.
A day of welcoming was codified into state law in Wyoming for March 30 of each year, the day our combat troops would have set foot on Wyoming soil after returning home from Vietnam in 1973.
All Wyoming veterans, especially those from the Korean and Vietnam Wars are invited to attend a special ceremony and receive their welcome home and thanks from a grateful state, at three events across the state.
Military, surviving spouses of veterans and family member are welcome to attend the ceremonies, all of which will be held on Monday, April 1.
One will be held at 8:15 a.m. in Cody at VFW Post 2673, located at 808 12th Street.
Another will be in Casper at 10:45 a.m. at the Casper Airport Observation Deck, and a third will be in Cheyenne at 2:30 p.m. at American Legion Post 6, 2001 East Lincolnway.
The ceremonies will feature remarks from Governor Mark Gordon, Major General Greg Porter, Wyoming adjutant general Wyoming Veterans Commission Chairman Keith Davidson, and other veterans and local officials.
