Budding writers in Lights On program

Among other things, March is known for Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2, also known as Read Across America Day. There were plenty of themed days happening at Ralph Witters Elementary to celebrate Dr. Seuss, and at Lights On elementary students were writing stories.

Lights On Coordinator Elisa Daniels noted the students have been working on how to map out a story with a beginning, middle and end, and how to incorporate descriptive words into each section so it fills out the story. The students also created illustrations.

Following are a few samples of the students’ writing as it appears on the page.

The cat in the hat wanted to go somewhere, so he started hopping everywhere. It was a spring day and mighty windy. The wind blew him into the city. In front of the town police station the cat in the hat was hopping. The police were angry but there was no stopping. He hopped and he hopped on the sherrif’s toenail, the angry sherrif threw the cat in the hat in jail.
