Kevin John Hoffman

Kevin John Hoffman passed away on February 21, 2019, following a courageous battle against a rare form of melanoma cancer

The youngest of three children, Kevin was born on August 10, 1955, in Casper, Wyo., to Mildred A. (Knox) and Albert E. Hoffman of Thermopolis, Wyo.

He graduated from the Hot Springs County school systems where he excelled in swimming. He loved to fish and camp throughout Wyoming with his family members. Growing up, Kevin was an altar boy at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. In high school Kevin biked across Wyoming, which was no easy feat with the mountains and terrain. Often he regaled others with stories about interviewing seniors as part of a national study. He enjoyed learning from others and their life experiences.

Kevin graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science with Honor degree and received his Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego. He also received a Masters of Business Administration from the Oregon Executive MBA program.

After law school he began his professional career at NERCO, Inc., in Portland, eventually spending three years in NERCO Minerals' Fairbanks, Alaska, office then relocated to their Vancouver, Wash., office where he continued to provide finance and legal contract administration support to NERCO, Inc., NERCO Minerals Company and NERCO Oil and Gas Company.

After leaving NERCO he held contract negotiating and pricing positions at Electric Lightwave, Xerox and Kapstone Paper and was able to travel to Asia and Europe on business activities. He finessed the Tokyo rail system and often gave guidance to others traveling to Japan.

He was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. When Kevin retired in 2014 due to his health, he volunteered serving meals to the less fortunate at the Ecumenical Ministries HIV Day Center and Trinity Episcopal Church. Through these experiences he listened to others and helped provide advice. His calm approach and caring attitude made him a person sought out by others.

He met the man of his life in 1989, and they spent 29 years together. They enjoyed annual road trips to Sunriver and Wyoming and vacationing in Hawaii. They were married in 2014.

He is survived by his husband Michael Macnab; sister, Alice Hoffman; brother, Edward Hoffman; nieces, Erin Foote and Kristen Fuller; and a great-niece and nephew.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents; and sister-in-law, Lynn Hoffman.

A memorial mass will be held Friday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
