Doctor's story presented Saturday

The next meeting of the Hot Springs County Historical Society will be Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m. Teril Mills will presented the program Dr. C. Dana Certer: Frontier Doctor – Man with a Dream.

In early day Wyoming, doctors were as scarce as hen’s teeth. Beginning at age 16, C. Dana Carter showed a natural propensity to serve his fellowman in the field of medicine. The Big Horn Basin was truly blessed to claim the services of this enterprising young man.

A man who loved his fast horses and women to match, Dr. Carter left an indelible mark not only in his calling to practice medicine, but also in the oil industry, farming/ranching enterprises and holster business. A solid, community minded man, member of several fraternal organizations and a socialite, Dr. Carter helped mold every community into a civilized, cultured environment. His character and accomplishments have landed him in the latest induction into the Hot Springs County Hall of Fame I 2016.

Mills, a fifth generation Wyoming Native, was born in the Worland library and has ranched all of his life north of Ten Sleep. Graduated from BYU in 1974 with a degree in Agribusiness and minor in Economics, Mills and his wife Becky have raised a family of five children. He has served his community on the school board and is currently on the BOCES board of directors in Thermopolis.

Mills is an avid, aspiring historian, ferreting out hidden nuggets of long forgotten stories of characters from a bygone era. The public is invited to come hear him weave a story of success, failure, intrigue, mystery and heartbreak as he shares the life of Dr. Carter. The program is free and refreshments will be served.
