This past Sunday, what could’ve been a deadly incident was averted thanks to the vigilant and valiant effort of law enforcement — and not just one agency. It took the combined efforts of local and state agencies to keep the peace in our streets.
The incident calls to mind a common theme heard during the election season — a desire for law enforcement agencies to work together toward a common goal rather than butting heads all the time.
And this week’s stopping of a potential Sunday shooter is just the latest example of what our officers can do when they join forces. This year has already seen plenty of major drug busts, and on the regular weekly call reports there’s at typically at least one call that began in the sheriff’s office but was later transferred to or assisted by the police department.
It doesn’t just stop with the agencies inside the Joint Law Enforcement Center, either. Officers and deputies regularly help out Wyoming Highway Patrol, and make themselves visible in the school district and meetings of the county commission and town council. Here at the Independent Record, they make sure we’ve got the information we need to pass on to our readers so they’re informed of activities — the good and the bad.
We might all take a lesson from the cooperation shown by law enforcement this past weekend in working toward a common goal. There’s often a sense that various organizations can’t get along and work together, but aside from the personal agendas and occasional bickering you’d find these organizations all have common goals toward improving our town.
So, hats off to law enforcement for showing what can be done through working together. Though the incidents might not be as extreme as seen this week, know your efforts are noted and appreciated.
