Oral history workshop planned for March 23

In our youth, we learned history through books and photographs. As we got older, perhaps we watched documentaries featuring footage from historical events.

Now, however, there is a wonderful way to not only capture the history of the area, but even a way to capture the history of your family in a unique way – oral history.

The Hot Springs County Museum and Cultural Center, in conjunction with the Wyoming State Records Advisory Board, will be conducting a free, hands-on workshop on planning and conducting oral history interviews.

Instructor Dr. Barbara Allen Bogart has been involved in oral history for more than 30 years and worked with the Uinta County Museum and the Wyoming State Museum. She has published two books and numerous articles on oral history and enjoys presenting these oral history workshops in communities.

The basics of doing an oral history will be covered in the free workshop along with choosing a focus, indentifying narrators, preparing an interview guide, choosing your recording equipment and how to conduct the interview.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, March 23 at the Hot Springs County Museum from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

The workshop is free and open to the public.
