4-H Junior Leader fundraiser planned

The Hot Springs County 4-H Junior Leaders will be hosting a free chili supper to the public on Saturday, March 16, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds. 4-H members will be making desserts including fancy decorated cakes, pies, cookies and baskets, which will be available by silent auction and live auction. The live auction will begin at 6:30, with John Gerrells auctioneering.

Money raised from the event will go to helping Junior Leaders attend Washington Leadership Focus, a weeklong leadership camp for 4-H members in grades 7-9. This event gives students the opportunity to view our nation’s capitol and learn valuable leadership skills to bring home to their community, the 4-H clubs and the program as a whole. The auction also funds several county and area leadership workshops and other activities such as livestock judging, horse judging, shooting sports and presentation contests.

Junior Leaders who will be attending the Washington Leadership Focus will also be part of a labor auction on March 16.

Hot Springs County 4-H Educator Joey Johnson stated, “We are really encouraging 4-Hers to be actively involved in the judging areas and presentation contests because it builds their communication and public speaking skills and it gives them insight of the different industries that they may want to peruse down the road as a career.”

Hot Springs County 4-H hopes to take 4-Hers to the Showcase-Showdown, which is our state event in horse judging, livestock skill-a-thon, vegetable judging, presentation contest and foods, just to name a few. There are also plans to take 4-Hers to compete in the Wyoming State Shooting Sports Competition in July and the Wyoming State Fair in August.
