It was a busy weekend for Bobcat Robotics teams No. 4273, Aluminati, and No. 7238, Fistful of Axles, both of which competed at the Wyoming State Tournament in Casper.
Following the qualifying matches, Fistful of Axles placed 12th and Aluminati placed 22nd. However, following qualifying rounds the top teams pick other teams for their alliances and team HCVB selected Aluminati, with the alliance finishing in third place.
Coach London Jenks noted both teams had some pretty tough matches against some high ranking teams. Teams also had a couple robot issues such as connectivity.
Aluminati was also chosen as recipient of the Control Award, which “celebrates a team that uses sensors and software to increase the robot’s functionality on the field,” according to First Tech Challenge. “This award is given to the team that demonstrates innovative thinking in the control system to solve game challenges such as autonomous operation, improving mechanical systems with intelligent control, or using sensors to achieve better results on the field. The control component should work consistently on the field.”
Team member Krynn McGinty was announced as a finalist for the Wyoming State Dean’s List.
Teachers nominate students for the list, which recognizes those with gracious professionalism, promotion of the team and involvement with the work.
McGinty said being a finalist is a great opportunity and she’s glad to represent her team and her town.
This week, Aluminati will be on the road again, competing at the Utah State Championship.
