Your source for news in Hot Springs County
As your newspaper, one of our primary responsibilities is to make sure people can read about and enjoy what is happening in our community. Pictures, editorial content and advertisements all go to meet this goal. While it would be nice to be all-knowing so nothing got missed, the reality is that we don’t know everything that’s going to happen in a given week, and unfortunately that leads to us and our readers missing out on seeing some great things, particularly at the schools.
Many activities happen at the regular morning assemblies at the middle school and high school, and it’s a fact that often even the staff at those buildings don’t know what’s planned until that morning, but to make sure those chances aren’t missed we’ll be in regular attendance. The schools have also been contacted about letting us know about school-wide activities.
But there’s still a lot more happening in individual classes and our eyes and ears can catch a lot but not everything, so this is a request for the teachers, as well as the parents, to help keep us informed of the activities that the students are involved in. While we like to hear the positive, we don’t mind the negative as well since it often helps bring the reality some don’t want to face to the front.
Also in regard to the negative, we often come under scrutiny and verbal — sometimes even physical — attacks for printing stories about drug busts, deaths, negative test scores, and dwindling visitors and funds at the town and county level. But, those are part of our lives as well and we would be neglecting our responsibility if we didn’t report on the down side of things as well as the upbeat. It can’t always be sunshine and smiles.
For the flow of information to work smoothly, it has to go both directions. While we will do our job to make sure you, our readers, know about what’s happening in the community, we invite you to stop by, call or write and share your news.
