On the Record policy
It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Clarification
In the drug bust story in the Jan. 31 edition, it should be noted that any arrests were made by the Sheriff’s Office deputies, and responding police officers were there to assist.

Tuesday, Jan. 29
3:46 p.m. Report of theft from a business. The business owner later located the items.
Wednesday, Jan. 30
10:10 a.m. While investigating another matter, a deputy found a registered sex offender had not properly registered a social media account.
2:06 p.m. A deputy responded to a broken down semi on Highway 20 North. A trooper with Wyoming Highway Patrol responded and the truck was towed.
Thursday, Jan. 31
8:44 a.m. Report of a vehicle passing a bus with its stop arm extended. The driver was warned.
Friday, Feb. 1
2:09 a.m. Deputy responded to a driver whose plates did not match the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and the plate was seized.
11:41 a.m. A cell phone was located and was picked up by the owner.
Saturday, Feb. 2
2:06 a.m. A vehicle in the state park was observed to be driven erratically. After a stop the driver, Brian J. Foote, was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested for alleged driving under the influence.
Sunday, Feb. 3
10:31 p.m. Following a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle, the deputy located items in the vehicle that tested presumptive positive for meth. David K. Lamont was arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance.

Tuesday, Jan. 29
4:45 p.m. Complainant reported a phone scam and was advised to block the numbers.
Friday, Feb. 1
10:04 a.m. A set of keys was found and turned in.
4:42 p.m. Complainant reported a vehicle was tailgating him. The suspect vehicle could not be located.
6:37 p.m. Reporting party smelled natural gas. The responding officer did not smell the gas and did not find any signs of damaged or broken meters in the area.
Sunday, Feb. 3
12:30 a.m. Complainant felt like he was being harassed at work.
Monday, Feb. 4
12:50 p.m. Report of vehicle being driven erratically. The suspect vehicle could not be located.
Circuit court
Brad A. Merritt was found guilty of use of a controlled substance, driving under suspension, driving without an interlock device, open container, no registration and no proof of insurance, and was sentenced to 72 days in jail. Fees and fines are $530.
Nancy A. Haynes was found guilty of driving under suspension, no proof of insurance and stop sign violation. Fees and fines are $615.
Hollie N. Smith was found guilty of open container. Fees and fines are $95.
