Drive to keep golf course alive

A Go Fund Me page has been set up online to help save the Thermopolis Golf Course (TGC) from closing.

According to the page, there have been rumors the course will be closing, however, the golf course board is committed to keeping it alive.

“In an effort to save money, the TGC Board will operate the golf course without a club professional, and we will hire a greens-keeper and summer help,” the page says.

Infrastructure repairs and maintenance on water pumps, irrigation systems and a failing underground sprinkler system have reportedly created a financial hardship for the course built in 1962.

The page goes on to say, “The course has hosted hundreds of events and fundraisers over the last 57 years of its history. It provides the mose beautiful venue in town for weddings, outdoor fundraisers, Christmas parties and private events, just to mention a few.”

The course is used as a sports venue for middle school and high school athletes. Both golf and cross country teams utilize the course for training and tournaments.

The board is advertising for a course superintendent who must be able to maintain the course by taking care of the greens, holes, bunkers and general maintenance as well as watering, landscaping and maintenance of equipment.

The board says they are asking for donations to keep the golf course from becoming “one of the things Thermopolis used to have.”
