Meeteetse fishing derby

The 11th annual Ice Fishing Derby at Meeteetse will by Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9 and 10, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, at the Upper and Lower Sunshine Reservoirs.

Sponsored by the Meeteetse Visitor Center, the event allows for up to 100 teams with a maximum of three people per team. The cost is $75 per team, and registration must be complete by Feb. 9. Applications are available online at meeteetsewy.com/events-calendar/applications-forms, and can be turned in at the visitor center or emailed to office@meeteetsewy.com

Reports are that the ice is over 16+ thick and recent anglers say the fish are biting. Proceeds from this event go to a local non-profit and support the visitor center operations.

Packets can be picked up at visitor center during open hours, Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m ,or at the Elk Horn Bar & Grille Friday, Feb. 8th starting at 5 p.m.

Cash prizes and raffle drawings will be done at the award ceremony at 4 p.m. Feb. 10 at Meeteetse Conservation District. There is a special drawing for a gas powered ice auger for adult team members that fish the derby. Also, the special prize for largest fish is an ice sled with and attachment for pulling behind a snowmobile or 4-wheeler. There are lots of other prizes for teams and small fry — age 14 and under — participants.

Saturday night the Elk Horn will host a Friends of the NRA Wall of Guns fundraiser beginning at 6 p.m. This is the only NRA fundraiser event in Park County. Tickets are on sale at Meeteetse businesses for the first game and purchase of a ticket includes a free meal.
