Bobcats face tough losses

The Bobcat boys had a rough time this past weekend against Buffalo on Friday and Big Piney on Saturday.

Friday night's game saw a 62-15 loss against the Bison. Coach Shane Corpening stated, "For the Buffalo game we couldn't have asked for a better start to the game. Defensively, we held them to six points for most of the first quarter.

"However, within the last 15 seconds of the first quarter we had a pair of untimely turnovers that led to easy scores for them. Offensively, we struggled to finish layups. I felt like we were getting good looks at the rim, but we just couldn't finish.

"I was proud of our defensive effort for the next two quarters. We held Buffalo to 36 points going into the fourth quarter. Our major issues were definitely on the offensive side of the ball. We were 6 for 29 from the field - 21 percent. That in combination with over 30 turnovers is not a recipe for success. Our ball security must improve for the remainder of the season and it will be something we focus on every night in practice. Duder Harvey finished with nine points on eight shots."

The Cats also had a 61-38 loss at Saturday's game against the Big Piney Punchers.

Coach Corpening stated, "The Big Piney game was similar to the Buffalo game. We started off hot and took the lead going into the second quarter. From there our offense sputtered over the next two quarters as we only scored 10 points until the fourth.

"Big Piney put in a zone against us and we had a difficult time with it. Our outside shots weren't falling while theirs were. I think Jarron Mortimore played one of his better games. He was aggressive to the cup and finished with 12 points on seven shots.

"The reality of the matter is this, both teams we played this weekend had deep benches. Due to injuries and lack of numbers we only have five kids sitting on our bench right now. Of the five, three are freshman.

"We are extremely youthful and we are playing like that. We, however, are improving week to week despite what the scores might indicate. The depth of a team generally doesn't show until the fourth and we were in both games this weekend up until that point. There are plenty of positives with this group and they are working their tails off to get better every night. I firmly believe their best basketball is yet to come."

The boys are playing next at Worland this Friday. Tip off is 3:30 p.m.
