On the Record policy
It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Clarification
Though an article in last week’s paper stated there is nowhere in Thermopolis providing passports, Dr. Jeb Schenck can do passport photos for $12 per person.

Tuesday, Jan. 15
3:56 p.m. Report of a mail fraud in which a check is sent out.
6:07 p.m. Complaint of a vehicle with no tail lights. The suspect vehicle could not be located.
7:02 p.m. Melissa A. Goodman and Shawn D. Goodman Sr. were arrested for alleged child endangerment and possession of a controlled substance.
Wednesday, Jan. 16
11:38 a.m. Report of a high level of hydrogen sulfide gas levels along Highway 120. The responding deputy found nothing out of the ordinary.
Saturday, Jan. 19
4:16 p.m. Report of a vehicle stopped in the canyon that might require assistance.
2 p.m. Request for a trespass notice from a homeowner in East Thermopolis.
Sunday, Jan. 20
12:40 a.m. Following a traffic stop, the deputy detected the odor of a controlled substance from a vehicle. No such substance was found.

Monday, Jan. 14
11 a.m. Jim Hall was arrested for alleged probation violation.
Tuesday, Jan. 15
10:38 a.m. Report of a juvenile having items not allowed at a school.
11:14 a.m. Report of a found loaded pistol. The owner arrived prior to the officer and everything was fine.
10:15 p.m. A glass smoking pipe was located.
Wednesday, Jan. 16
6:06 p.m. Reported theft of a large number of items from a business.
6:28 p.m. An officer responded to a dispute between two subjects and advised trespass notices could be issued if neccesary.
Thursday, Jan. 17
10:23 a.m. A male subject was trespassed from a local business.
6:30 p.m. Howard L. Haagensen was arrested for alleged probation violation.
11:49 p.m. A vehicle was observed not driving appropriately. The driver was contacted and was determined to not be intoxicated.
Friday, Jan. 18
7:56 a.m. Complainant reported a windshield on a vehicle was struck. The matter is under investigation.
1:49 p.m. An unattended vehicle rolled backward across a street. There was no damage done.
Saturday, Jan. 19
12:15 a.m. A subject on probation was located wearing a cape and a unitard. The case was forwarded to Probation and Parole.
4:53 p.m. Report of a vehicle crash in the state park. The vehicle was found to simply be inoperative, but the owner was able to get it going.
Sunday, Jan. 20
1:13 a.m. Caller was concerned about an officer running plates, which officers are allowed to do.
1:20 p.m. Robert L. Richter was arrested for alleged probation violation.
Monday, Jan. 21
11:49 a.m. Officers responded to an accident. Inclement weather was a likely factor.
6:19 p.m. An officer responded to an ongoing dispute between neighbors and advised if the problem continued it would be dealt with accordingly.
9:07 p.m. Complainant felt someone was in an apartment and shouldn’t be there. The subject in question is a new tenant.
Circuit court
Diedrich E. Kurkowski was found guilty of second-offense driving under the influence and was sentenced to 14 days in jail. Fees and fines are $455.
Shawn D. Goodman was found guilty of two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, and was sentenced to one year in jail with 292 days suspension and one year supervised probation. Fees and fines are $715.
Zackery T. Hurley was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to one year in jail with one year suspension and one year unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $505.
Brian K. Hill was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to one year in jail with one year suspension and six months unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $505.
