Strolling in the new year

The Second Friday ArtStroll/ Still Strolling Saturday in downtown Thermopolis January 11 and 12 continues the joy and community spirit of the holidays. Stroll hours on Friday evening are from 5-8 p.m. The ArtStroll continues Saturday from around 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. (hours may vary). The Smoking Waters Art Guild invites strollers to shop, admire, and snack along the Stroll.

“This month’s ArtStroll is a great way to start off 2019”, guild member Suzanne Samelson notes, “and we are looking at a nice weather forecast, too. Come out and enjoy our spirited downtown.”

Start your Stroll at Flying Eagle Gallery, the host business. You will see a variety of artworks made from recycled vinyl records - clocks, earrings, and other items. This is also an opportunity to see more works by Don Eiswald, who paints large and vibrant oil colors on canvas and Don’s wife Deb Eiswald, who works in pastels, beaded leatherwork, and scrimshaw.

Angela Siems will be displaying her works in pastel and acrylic along the Stroll, along with Bob and Beth Stehlin – Bob with his wood turnings and Beth with her embroidered notecards.

Berta Mills, from Worland, works with pastels and also does mixed media collages with acrylic paints and will be showing off some of both.

Acoustic singer/songwriter Jay Alm will perform following the Friday Stroll.

Still Strolling Saturday is a good time to revisit the shops and artists. The Hot Springs County Museum and Cultural Center presents Hot Springs County Historical Society’s first program of 2019. John Vietti will give a talk on the “History and Building of Model Hit and Miss Engines” at 2 p.m. Vietti will demonstrate several of his engines. Light refreshments will be served and admission to the talk is free.

Stollers are encouraged to pick up a map at any Stroll business to find the location of artists. Return the map to the host business, at 541 Broadway Street, at the end of Friday evening’s Stroll to be entered to win a piece of art work donated by the artists.

The Second Friday ArtStroll/ Still Strolling Saturday is organized by Hot Springs Greater Learning Foundation and Smoking Waters Art Guild with additional help from Main Street Thermopolis, Hot Springs Travel & Tourism and local businesses and individuals.

Contact Suzanne Samelson 307-864-3002 or gatherer@panix.com for more information. The roster of artists, performers and programs is subject to change.
