The freshmen boys basketball team came home with a 47-37 victory after facing Lander on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
Coach Dean Despain stated, “Tuesday’s game against Lander was exactly how we should play and how I expect that group to play on a nightly basis. Our strengths are definitely our ‘in your face’ defense and effort, we fly around on defense and really make it a point to make the other team take care of the ball.
“We have a large bench — when at full strength I have 13 kids suited up — and as a team we are improving week to week.”
Top scorers for the game were Hardy Johnson, Adley Coyne and Jase Longwell, all with 10 points each along with numerous hustle plays.
“We have a bench filled with players willing to come in and give it their all,” Despain said. “Jaxson Jensen is a great example, coming into the game off the bench and giving us a spark on defense with multiple steals. We struggle at times with ‘starting slow’ and allowing the other team to pull ahead early before climbing back into the game, this is something that we’ve been attempting to remedy as a team and hope to ‘start fast and stay fast’ with our style of play.”
The freshmen JV boys were also headed to play at Fort Washakie on Dec. 21.
