Christmas tree is still standing

Granted, we’re still a few weeks away from Christmas, but so far I’ve been really lucky in regards to my Christmas tree and my...cats.

You’ve probably seen videos of nefarious fur balls eating ornaments, gnawing their way through light strings and even knocking the entire holiday beauty to the ground. I’ve had cats through the years who have done just that.

“Fish” (yes, the cat was named Fish) was notorious for climbing up the center of the tree and peeking out at me from between the branches. As she got older, and fatter, she would just lie under it and knock around the balls hanging from the bottom branches.

And then there was “Punkin”, my fabulous orange buddy who would climb up on the highest ledge he could find an launch himself at the top of the tree. Poor angel on the top never was the same. He’s the same one that used to figure out how to get on the roof and then peer down at me from above the door like a vulture.

“Friday” was my little baby who would knock the balls off the tree and then proceed to play with them all over the house. When I moved last February I found half a dozen Christmas ornaments tucked away where Friday had hidden them to play with later.

This year however, I am blessed with “Cupcake” and “Cookie”.

Now my tree has been up for about a week and I have to say I am quite proud of my furry girls. The tree is still standing. The lights are still blinking. The ornaments are still in their places.

I have to wonder if some of the other kitties in the neighborhood have clued them in on the big fat guy and the treats he brings to good little puppies and kitties throughout the world.
