On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tuesday, Nov.29

12:11 p.m. A deputy provided traffic control on Highway 20 North while a vehicle was towed out of a ditch.

Wednesday, Nov. 28

1:18 p.m. Report of a hit and run accident at a business south of town. Video of the suspect vehicle was recorded and the vehicle was stopped on Dec. 3. The driver was cited for property destruction, not reporting damage to a vehicle, failure to report an accident and no insurance.

3:38 p.m. While on patrol a deputy spotted a vehicle with expired registration. The driver was cited for improper registration and the plates were seized.

7:07 p.m. A deputy observed a motorist speeding and performed a traffic stop. Upon contact with the driver, the deputy observed items in the vehicle that tested presumptive positive for THC. The driver was cited for speeding, no insurance and possession of a controlled substance.

7:16 p.m. Report of a fight in East Thermopolis. Robert J. Sorce was arrested for alleged domestic battery.

8:55 p.m. A male subject reported lights on and a strange vehicle at a property when they were not supposed to be. Strange items were found at the property and the matter is under investigation.

Friday, Dec. 30

1:30 a.m. A deputy observed movement from a vehicle at Wedding of the Waters. The occupant was informed he was trespassing and though initially uncooperative with the deputy he complied. Darrell W. Campbell was arrested for alleged interference with an officer.

12:46 p.m. A motorist was observed speeding and was stopped. The deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana and later found items that tested presumptive positive for THC. The driver was cited for speeding and possession of a controlled substance.

Saturday, Dec. 1

10:07 p.m. Report of trespassing in the Black Mountain area. It was determined this may be a civil issue concerning a right of way.

Wednesday, Nov. 28

11:34 a.m. An officer responded to a family fight. There were no marks indicating physical harm on those involved, though they were asked to write statements about the incident for submission to the county attorney.

12:51 p.m. A business reported seeing someone who looked like a wanted subject. The subject left prior to the officer’s arrival and could not be located.

Thursday, Nov. 29

7:01 a.m. Report of a man in black wearing a ski mask at a school. The subject could not be located.

4:12 p.m. A call originated in the county regarding a red truck with a male subject in it holding an empty alcohol bottle. The truck was stopped in town and the driver, Robert L. Richter II, was arrested for alleged driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license. The passenger, Chris M. Bowman, was arrested on three warrants out of Washakie County and cited for possession of a controlled substance.

7:51 p.m. Complaint of a fight between a father and daughter. The incident was only verbal in nature.

Friday, Nov. 30

11 a.m. Complaint of a hitchhiker in front of a business. The subject could not be located.

2:26 p.m. Complainant reported a stolen wedding ring, though it was later located with the officer’s assistance.

Saturday, Dec. 1

11:15 a.m. Brandon R. Boren was arrested for allegedly violating probation.

Sunday, Dec. 2

8:56 p.m. Following a vehicle stop, an officer noticed the driver was Shyam S. Nepali, who was arrested on four warrants for alleged failure to appear.

Monday, Dec. 3

9:13 a.m. Robert L. Richter II was arrested for alleged driving with a suspended license.

1:03 p.m. Complainant reported having a tire slashed while at work.

4:56 p.m. A bicycle left at a house was reported as stolen and is being held by the police department.

Circuit court

Deanna S. Morgan was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, breach of peace and interference with an officer, and was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 180 days suspension and one year supervised probation.

Jennifer L. Gambogi was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and no insurance in vehicle, and was sentenced to one year in jail with 361 days suspension and one year supervised probation. Fees and fines are $945.

Alexis D. Jensen was found guilty of two counts of possession of a controlled substance and being under 21 with a measurable blood-alcohol content, and was sentenced to one year in jail with one year suspension and one year supervised probation. Fees and fines are $360.

Dominic M. Magelky was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance, open container, interfering with an officer, under 18 and in possession/use of tobacco and speeding and was sentenced to one year in jail with one year suspension and one year supervised probation. Fees and fines are $420.

Brad A. Merritt was bound over to District Court on charges of fourth-offense driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of use of a controlled substance.

Shawn D. Devries was found guilty of shoplifting and was sentenced to 60 days in jail with 37 days suspension and six months unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $205.

Andrew B. Meador was found guilty of interfering with an officer and was sentenced to 10 days in jail with 10 days suspension and six months unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $705.
