According to a report released this week by the Wyoming Business Council, Hot Springs County is ranked second in the state for assisted living bed and nursing home beds, and has the fifth highest poverty rate at 13.6 percent, 2.5 percent over the Wyoming rate of 11.1.
The figures are part of the housing report for the county, a tool to help the community understand the current housing picture.
The report further states the county has the 17th highest percentage of renters in Wyoming at 26.3 and the 19th highest income at $3,841 per month. The average monthly Wyoming income is $4,930. The county’s unemployment rate is 3.9 percent coming in just under the state rate of 4.2.
Of the housing in the county, 62.5 percent of it was built before 1980. The county is 11th in the state for people spending more than half of their income on housing and for those spending 31-50 percent of income on housing, and 14th in the state for access to affordable housing.
As to the maximum monthly payment households can afford: 286 can afford $0-313, 199 can afford $314-563, 322 can afford $564-813, 284 can afford $814-1,063, 310 can afford $1,064-1,375, 389 can afford $1,376-2,188, 381 can afford $2,189-3,483 and 91 can afford $3,439-5,000.
The top five employers for the county are: health care and social assistance, with 365 employees and an average $3,337 monthly wage; leisure and hospitality, with 300 employees and an average $1,179 monthly wage; educational services, with 237 employees and an average $2,951 monthly wage, mining, with 213 employees and an average $5,381 monthly wage; and public administration, with 199 employees and an average $3,255 monthly wage.
