Thermopolis Middle School's girls basketball team took on our age-old rivals, Worland, last Tuesday before taking off for Thanksgiving break.
Coach Ginger Ward said the eithth grade A ladies put on a show in the first quarter with ball movement, crisp passing and post entries.
"They hit the boards hard," Ward said. "Lexi (Overfield) and Sadie (Burr) played their match-ups very well and the rest of the ladies played great help defense."
Top rebounders in the 13-30 loss were Ruthanne Johnson with nine and Overfield with eight. Overfield was also the only player in the 50 percent shooting column.
The B team won in a squeaker, putting down Worland 19-18.
Brooklyn Cooley and Brooklyn May shot well, both just below 50 percent.
"We rebounded the ball well again and in the last few minutes found a way to win," Ward said.
Top rebounders for the B team were Johnson with seven and Cooley with six.
The seventh grade A team had a rough game against a very competitive Worland team, losing 7-50.
Xoey Rich and Kaitlyn Barral did a nice job of filling the lane on defense and getting their shoulders square to the ball on offense.
Dazzlyn Hunt played well, too, pushing the ball up the court and giving the ladies opportunities to score.
"Maggie Landon does a nice job of keeping her eyes up and looking to pass the ball," Ward said. "We need to stop allowing easy baskets and the score would look much different."
Top rebounders for the game were Rich and Barral with four each.
On the B team, Cadence Bowman, Brooklyn Williams and Kiyah Oliver forced the Worland team to pay attention, because those ladies are coming after the ball, said Ward.
She added Elizabeth Skelton patiently pivots until she finds someone to pass to.
Top rebounders for the B team were Joely Mounts and Bowman.
Shooters in the 50 percent column were Rich and Mounts.
