Have a little patience

Old Man Winter certainly set the weather forecasters on their ear Saturday, proving once again that you can predict all you want to, but the reality is an inch of snow can turn into way more if you live in Wyoming.

Now is the time to remember “patience is a virtue” as we wait for streets to be cleared. Although the Town of Thermopolis crews were out doing their best on Saturday afternoon, there was just so much snow at once that it made things difficult at best.

Yes, there are piles of snow all along Broadway from the stop light to the railroad tracks, enormous piles that are going to take time to clear away. Yes, there are berms of snow in the middle of some of our side streets that are inconvenient, but they’re going to be there for a while so we have to do the best we can to get in and out of our driveways.

Along with our patience, we have to remember that snow removal costs money. The town has to be cautious with overtime costs and equipment costs, especially with these early snows, since there’s no way to know if we’re going to get hit hard for the next several months.

Imagine how difficult getting around would be if the money for snow removal ran out before the end of December and we got several more huge storms like this in January and February. In fact, those weather forecasters are calling for snow Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Most of all, let us remember this is the holiday season when we should be carrying tidings of good cheer in our hearts and helping our fellow man. Help out your neighbor with their sidewalks or driveway. If you see someone stuck, lend a hand.

Let’s have patience and a smile for everyone this season...especially those folks in the snow plows.
