Memory and brain health workshop

In November, Dr. Jeb Schenck will be providing a free community workshop, Maintaining Memory and Brain Health.

As adults age, many worry about memory slips or moments such as “Where did I put my keys? or “What was I looking for?” These are not unusual and may not signify there is an issue. However, there are four key strategies that have been solidly tested to help reduce the effects of aging. These strategies apply to adults of all ages, not just seniors.

For younger adults, and even teenagers, the strategies presented and discussed at the workshop are proactive measures that need to become lifelong habits of mind.

During the workshop, there will be discussion of the strategies along with natural traps that can make memory worse that people must be aware of. There will be an honest look at what needs to be done and discuss the problem of self-deception, in which people think they’re doing the right thing but it really isn’t any help. Additionally there will be a cognitive self-test designed by Ohio State University that can help people become alert if there are problems; the test is designed to be shared with personal health care providers.

The free workshop is scheduled for 6:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8 in the lower level of Big Horn Federal.
