Pumpkin spiced everything

Its here! That smell of fall is here!

You can step outside in the morning and the air actually smells different. There is no way you can escape the constant barrage of pumpkin spiced everything, either.

Who decided we need pumpkin spice yogurt pretzels? Pumpkin spiced smoothies don’t really sound appealing to me, nor does pumpkin spice Jell-O. Non-alcoholic pumpkin spice sparkling juice? You can also find pumpkin spiced kettle corn, moonshine and salsa.

I kid you not.

Now that’s not to say I don’t like pumpkin spice. In fact, pumpkin spice coffee creamer is a go-to for me in October and the thought of pumpkin spiced cookies, cinnamon rolls or cupcakes sounds just fine.

We do associate different smells with different seasons and, of course, memories, but why do we actually smell things more acutely during fall and winter?

Its scientific.

Because of the cooler air temperature, odor molecules move more slowly, so there are actually fewer smells to smell. That’s why some stand out so much more distinctly than others.

Walk past a dumpster in the August heat and it can knock you to the ground, but pass that same dumpster in the winter and the smell isn’t nearly as wicked.

Personally, I prefer the sweet smells of fall, the crunching leaves, fuzzy sweaters and hot coffee...with pumpkin spice creamer.
