We have hit that time of year when some days it feels as if Mother Nature is having some kind of psychotic episode – freezing in the morning and roasting in the afternoon.
That’s the wonderful thing about Wyoming.
It also makes it difficult to decide what to wear for the day, whether its sweater and boots weather in the morning or jeans and a t-shirt in the afternoon.
I’ve lived in a few places in my life and it seems like the contents of my closet have been different everywhere I’ve been.
For instance, in California I had just a couple of sweaters for wearing at the beach. Trust me, those movies with teens rollicking around on the beach at night are misleading. Its cold. The breeze coming off the ocean smells incredible, but it brings a chill with it that eliminates anything even remotely romantic about a stroll on the beach.
The remainder of my California wardrobe was jeans, shorts and t-shirts. I distinctly remember standing on the deck of a friend’s home in Huntington Beach, Calif. drinking a strawberry daquiri on Thanksgiving, wondering where the snow was. Yes, as much as I complain about the snow these days, back then I actually missed it.
And then there were the years I lived in Jackson Hole with a closet full of thermal everything. Sweaters, sweatshirts, leggings to wear under my jeans and a drawer full of wool socks got me through. And that was just the summer months. The coldest winter I ever experienced was June in Jackson.
Now I get to mix things up. Of course, that also means storing winter clothes during the summer and summer clothes during the winter, but that’s a small price to pay for being home.
So grab your coffee and your sweatshirt this morning because I’m sure I’ll be seeing you later in your t-shirt.
