Bobcats win on the road

Held the Wolves scoreless at 52-0

The Bobcats traveled to Moorcroft and got a road conference win this past weekend, shutting out the Wolves 52-0.

Coach Matt McPhie stated, “The team took care of the ball early, and jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. During the second quarter the team exploded for 38 points which included some great offense and defense to take a commanding 52-0 lead at half time.”

McPhie noted the second half was played under the running clock rule.

“Chandler Maddock scored 4 touchdowns and ran the ball 10 times for 136 yards,” McPhie said. “Blake Williams scored three touchdowns, two receiving along with a rushing touchdown. Overall the offense ran the ball well, eclipsing 300 yards of rushing, and continue to improve upfront in the trenches.

“Jon Harvey had a nice night at quarterback, completing four of five passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns.”

It was a good night for the defense as well, as McPhie noted, “Defensively, the team was led by Ethan Becher with eight tackles and 12 defensive points. Cade McLean got the start at free safety, and led the team with 14 defensive points including an interception and a fumble recovery. Oran Coyne also played well on the defensive line. Some of our young guys received lots of playing time in the 2nd half, and were pleased defensively as we completed the shutout.

“Our goal remains unchanged. We want to be the best team we can be following our eighth game. We’ve seen steady improvement from multiple kids in multiple positions. We’ll continue to challenge our boys to compete and have a great week of practice. Winning isn’t a Friday night thing, it happens through the work put in Monday through Thursday and I believe our young men are beginning to understand this.

“We head down to play Mt View this week. They are the defending state champions and we have a great opportunity to test ourselves once again.” Kickoff is Friday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m.
