Monday is the start of Homecoming Week for the Thermopolis Bobcats. A time when alumni return home to see the parade and cheer on our volleyball players and football team.
Gone are the days of the snake dance through downtown and the burning of the effigy at the flagpole with the cheerleaders, the band and almost the entire town, but we have to understand today’s Bobcats have their own idea of fun and we should be joining in just as we did decades ago.
Have you ever seen a “Mangeant”?
It takes a lot of courage and self confidence for these boys, many of whom are football players and wrestlers, to dress up in the girls’ prom gowns and answer the usual pageant questions.
It is a ton of fun. They ham it up like you wouldn’t believe and have the audience in stitches. Don’t miss it. It will be in the auditorium on Monday at 12:15.
One of the more popular shows on TV these days is a lip-synch battle where celebrities pretend to sing the hits, just moving their mouths to the lyrics and imitating the bands.
Well, we have that right here in Thermopolis on Wednesday.
It is, by far, one of the kids’ favorite activities during Homecoming Week and even the faculty and staff get involved. Sure, they’re not really singing, but they are beyond creative and highly entertaining.
Who knows, maybe this year there will be a crowd surfer.
Come catch the fun at 12:15 in the auditorium.
If you’re more into the sporting side of things, you can catch the “Dodge, Duck, Dip and Dodge” of the dodgeball tournament on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the gym.
The girls get their turn on Leroy Hayes Field on Thursday night with their Powder Puff football game and the boys take over the courts playing Buff Puff volleyball in the gym on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
And then Friday there’s the parade at 10:45. Do you have a float planned to support our Cats? Dinner by the FFA will begin at 5 p.m. down at the football field.
Homecoming Royalty will be crowned at the football field at 5:30 p.m. and the game against Wheatland kicks off at 6 p.m.
Paint your windows! Paint your dog! Dig out your purple and gold and those old pom-poms and join our Bobcats as they make memories of Homecoming that will last them a lifetime, just like ours have.
Go CATS!
