Lady Cats struggle in Rawlins

Coach: “We just need to find our tempo”

The Lady Bobcat volleyball team saw action in Rawlins last weekend at the Rawlins Invitational, starting things out on Friday with pool play.

First games in the pool were against Pinedale where the girls lost 7-21 and 14-21, but coach Shannon Hill notes Kelly Johnson had three kills and six digs during the games.

Next up was Torrington, where the girls took on two more losses, 17-21 and 17-21. Against Torrington, Johnson added six kills and one block to her stats and Ashley McPhie posted an additional six kills along with 10 digs.

The ladies didn’t fare any better against Lovell, falling 16-21 and 12-21. McPhie had five kills and three aces during play.

The Cats were seeded in the silver bracket for play on Saturday, facing Lander in their first game.

“We played well in the first game,” coach Hill said, “but just couldn’t finish, losing 16-21, and lost our momentum in game two, dropping it 11-21.”

Hill said McPhie played very well in the match, racking up 10 kills.

Their next opponent for the day was Newcastle and they lost both games, 20-21 and 17-21.

“Our losss really come down to our unforced errors an inconsistency,” Hill said.

McPhie had five kills and nine digs against Newcastle while Johnson and Kaylee DeVries both added three kills and six digs each. Tatum Vialpando added two blocks.

“Our talent is there, we just need to find our tempo and all be on our game at the same time, for every point,” Hill said. “I have every faith in the athletes that we have, that they will take what we have learned from these past tournaments and step up our game.

“Unfortunately we did not come out with a win against any of these teams, but it was good for us to see what our potential competition will be at Regionals.”
