David "Peapicker" Wurtz, 75 passed away of natural causes on August 30, 2018, at his home in Golden Valley, Ariz., and has joined his friends at that racetrack in the sky.
He was born February 6, 1943, to Ollie and Alice Wurtz in Parsons, Kan. The family moved to the Thermopolis, Wyo., area where he spent his childhood. At the age of 16 he found himself in Boise, Idaho, where he met and married Virgena Aldridge and raised their 2 children, Linda and David. Over the years he had various jobs and interests, but one of his biggest accomplishments was owning All Makes Auto Sales and Salvage, where he and his son rebuilt many cars and trucks. If he had any true loves other than family and friends it was racing and hunting and that was still a family affair. In later years he met Deborah Davis who became his partner and always by his side. In May 2017 they moved to Golden Valley, Ariz.
He is survived by lifelong partner and best friend, Deborah Davis; first wife Virgena Wurtz; children, David Wurtz, and Linda (Garen) Erdoisa; Deborah's children, Heather Squibb, Heidi (Robert) Troxel, Michael Squibb, and Nathan (Katie) Squibb; brothers, Dale (Patty) Wurtz, Dean (Kathie) Wurtz, Dennis Wurtz, Duane (Kathy) Wurtz; sister, Doris (Keith) Hess; special friend, Ross Burke; Deborah's mother Joane; Otter; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and several special friends.
David was preceded in death by parents, Ollie Wurtz and Alice Wurtz Malley; brothers, Donal Wurtz, Dairld Wurtz, Danny Wurtz; and sister Dorothy Wurtz Bright.
On September 15, David will be inducted in the WIRA/ Meridian Speedway Hall of Fame. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday September 16 at 1 p.m. at Meridian Speedway in the pit area, in Meridian, Idaho.
