The Bobcat football team was dealt a heavy blow last Friday with a 43-0 loss on the road against Big Horn.
Coach Matt McPhie said the Bobcats dug a hole for themselves early on in the game, giving up 29 points in the first 14 minutes. Though the offense still wasn’t able to put some points on the board, McPhie said the boys played both sides of the ball better, allowing only a couple more scores the remaining three quarters.
Both the offense and defense got settled into the game after that first quarter, the coach said, also noting Riley Shaffer was able to get an interception. Though not something anyone really likes to hear, McPhie said the team did well with its punts, and their snaps and kicks looked good.
Offensively, the coach said they will be working on understanding their assignments better. He said it’s easy when the players are standing still but adding speed and physicality into the mix certainly makes it more difficult. He pointed out that the Bobcats are a better team than they were a year ago with a different schedule, and “their best football is still ahead of us.”
This week will see the boys’ first home game, taking on Buffalo. McPhie is excited to play at home, and said it will be nice to not have to travel and have the hometown fans out to cheer for the team. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 7
