The Bobcat golf team had their second of six meets for the fall season this past weekend, a split tourney between Worland and Powell.
Day one found the team hitting the greens in Worland with Hardy Johnson scoring a 71 for the day, followed by Jeffry Clark with a 92. Lee Grimm shot a 132 for the day and Jean-Luc Willson hit 161. Maddie Stam, the only Lady Bobcat golfer scored 110 for the day.
The team traveled to Powell for the second day with Johnson shooting a 73 for a two-day total of 144, even par, finishing in second place.
Clark had a two-day total of 177, shooting an 85 the second day. Grimm had a better day, shooting a 117 for a two-day total of 249. Willson was able to shave shome shots, shooting a 153 for a two-day total of 314. Stam shot a 103 in Powell for a two-day total of 213.
Coach Joey Johnson said each of the golfers experienced improved scores from last week’s tournament, a few of them very significant.
“Our team placing was down to 11th,” Johnson said, “however, we were missing two of our golfers this week due to personal conflicts with the schedule.”
Coach Johnson said Clark improved this week by 59 strokes and is, “truly playing to his potential. Jeffry also placed in the top 20 as an individual with a two-day score of 177.”
Grimm improved his two-day total by six strokes from last week’s tournament.
“He had a hard first day in Worland,” Johnson said, “but made improvements the second day, and with more practice putting and chipping, I expect to see his scores keep improving.”
Willson knocked 18 strokes off last week’s scores and Johnson said he is continuing to work hard and make daily improvements on his game.
Stam’s 213, two-day total was a personal best for her.
“I am excited to see what the rest of the season brings for her as she continues to practice and become more competitive at each tournament,” Johnson said. “She improved from last week by 18 strokes.”
Hardy Johnson also improved by two strokes this week, taking second at the tournament.
This week the Cats head to Newcastle for their first test against several of the 2A teams they’ll be hitting at the State Tournament.
“This will be a real test for our young golfers,” coach Johnson said. “It will give us a good idea of where we stand with out competitors. I expect good things this week.”
