On the Record policy
It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Sheriff’s office
Tuesday, Aug. 14
7:19 a.m. Deputies assisted with traffic control for Cycle Greater Yellowstone.
2:12 p.m. A REDDI report was called in, but the driver was contacted and was not intoxicated.
3:27 p.m. Subject reported an IRS scam. The matter is under investigation.
7:40 p.m. Complainant reported a suspicious vehicle parked with its hazard lights active. There was no issue with the vehicle.
Wednesday, Aug. 15
12:15 a.m. Deputy could smell marijuana at an apartment complex but was unable to locate the source.
4:07 p.m. Deputy assisted Department of Family Services with a home visit.
Thursday, Aug. 16
8:33 a.m. Complainant reported a dog entering her yard and attacking her dog.
9:51 a.m. A semi truck trailer came off and was blocking traffic. The trailer was re-secured.
Saturday, Aug. 18
1:57 a.m. A subject was cited for property destruction and battery.
2:08 p.m. Assistance provided to Worland Police Department regarding a subject trespassing at a church.
Sunday, Aug. 19
2:12 a.m. Amanda N. Paschall was arrested for alleged driving under the influence.
12:25 p.m. Complainant reported issues regarding Guinea fowl in Kirby.
8:23 p.m. A female subject was cited for minor in possession of tobacco.
Monday, Aug. 20
11:58 a.m. Report of a mailbox being struck by a vehicle.

Tuesday, Aug. 14
9:01 a.m. Complainant was concerned about a backpack that was in a set location for a long time. The backpack was found to have sand in it.
10:06 a.m. Officer responded to a citizen dispute concerning a payroll.
11:43 a.m. Report of erratic driving. The suspect vehicle could not be located.
1:17 p.m. An officer provided assistance regarding a custody issue.
10:35 A traffic stop for a stop sign violation resulted in a juvenile being cited for minor in possession.
Wednesday, Aug. 15
12:57 p.m. Report of an accident at the fire hall. There were no injuries.
Thursday, Aug. 16
12:27 p.m. Complainant reported a blocked alley. The situation was resolved.
2:46 p.m. Report of a lost case containing debit and credit cards.
3:18 p.m. Report of a subject at a business requesting rides. The subject was put in touch with the sheriff’s office for assistance.
Friday, Aug. 17
9:40 a.m. Officer responded to a report of property being moved into a storage unit. The matter was deemed civil.
11:07 a.m. Officer assisted in regard to a trailer stolen out of Big Horn County.
12:59 p.m. Complaint of a subject panhandling. The subject was contacted and asked to leave.
6:19 p.m. Report of child abuse, though the incident originated in Fremont County.
Saturday, Aug. 18
7:35 p.m. Report of two vehicles being struck while a driver was attempting to parallel park. There was no visible damage to either vehicle.
Sunday, Aug. 19
1:51 a.m. Diedrich E. Kurkowski was arrested for alleged driving under the influence.
2:45 a.m. Report of subjects attempting to sell meth. Leonardo Hernandez was arrested for alleged driving under the influence, possession of meth, possession of marijuana and use of meth and marijuana. John D. Laster was arrested for alleged possession of marijuana.
9:53 a.m. Report of a hit and run at a local business.
2:05 p.m. Complainant reported someone driving over his lawn.
7:12 p.m. Following a traffic stop for speeding, Matthew W. Kramer was arrested on a warrant out of Platte County and was allowed to bond out.
8:15 p.m. Report of a bag of marijuana found in a yard.
8:55 p.m. An officer noted a vehicle was parked at a business for a long period of time. Contact was made and a search was consented to. Upon the search, meth was found. Casey N. Andreen was arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance.
Monday, Aug. 20
9:47 a.m. An officer helped arrange a time for a subject to retrieve property.
12:49 p.m. A business reported a possible theft.
2:06 p.m. Report of fraud by letter. The complainant was asked to respond in regard to a college loan, though she had not taken one out.
4:38 p.m. Report of a two vehicle accident. A state accident report was done.
8:54 p.m. Verbal dispute between two subjects, one of whom was later trespassed from the property.
11:42 p.m. Traffic stop in regard to speeding. The driver showed signs of impairment and was put through standard field sobriety tests. He passed and was allowed to go on his way.
Circuit court
Keith L. Knight was found guilty of driving under the influence, driving under suspension and no proof of insurance, and was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 83 days suspension and six months supervised probation. Fees and fines are $705.
Michael A. Blake was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 173 days suspension and one year unsupervised probation.
Carl M. Eckhardt was found guilty of hunting, trapping, fishing or collecting antlers/horns on private land without permission and taking a furbearing animal without a license, and was sentenced to 10 days in jail with 10 days suspension and six moths unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $490.
John B. Welch was found guilty of reckless driving and was sentenced to 360 days in jail with 360 days suspension and one year supervised probation. Fees and fines are $205.
