On April 2, 2017, Autumn Bansemer was at the spillway at Boysen Dam when she caught and landed a Game and Fish 27.5-inch walleye. Jessica Korhel noted Autumn caught the fish herself, with nobody else on the other end of the line. Her dad and fisherman friend were on hand to coach her in reeling the fish in.
Jessica said Autumn caught the fish through "jigging," further explaining the process involves casting the line, letting it sink for a while then tapping the rod while reeling in to get the bait to "swim" naturally, as if it were alive.
Jessica said Al Darlington did the mount for her, and stated "Autumn's fish is easily the largest walleye I have mounted for a child." Autumn added this was her first walleye and it didn't come in easy, and Jessica said this was her daughter's first time walleye fishing.
However the sport isn't new to Autumn, who said she's been fishing as long as she can remember and whose family fishes plenty. She sticks mainly to the river but has done some lake fishing as well, even ice fishing on occasion though she's not the biggest fan of getting out on the ice.
She's even fished in Florida for New Year's landing a couple sharks. With such large catches, Autumn certainly isn't going to stop casting any time soon.
