ArtStroll takes you strolling along summer sidewalks

The Second Friday ArtStroll/Still Strolling Saturday in downtown Thermopolis, August 10 and 11, features a variety of artists set up inside and outside of retail stores.  Stroll hours on Friday evening are from 5-8 p.m. The ArtStroll continues Saturday during regular business hours.  The Smoking Waters Art Guild has invited a great roster of artists this month.

Andrea Linn and Friends will be knitting and crocheting and talking about techniques and color. Lydia Shermer, who is new to the ArtStroll, will be showcasing her mixed media works. Gayle Phipps will continue her weaving demonstration she presented at the Big Horn Basin Folk Festival this past weekend.

Debbie Eiswald will feature her beaded leatherwork and pastels and intricate scrimshaw scrollwork, engravings, and carvings  Eiswald moved to Thermopolis recently and was happy to discover the lively arts community here. Ralph Witters Elementary School children will be selling handmade friendship bracelets and there will also be quilts made by local artists on view.

The gallery at Discover Thermopolis/Thermopolis Print Zone is the host business and welcomes back Douglas Nelson with his photography. Barb Rice will have her selection of repurposed art and there will also be a Ladies Hospital Auxiliary bake sale with lots of goodies and treats.

Artist Sallie Wesaw will talk about a range of different art and fine craft and what led her to explore in so many directions. Wesaw, a local treasure, taught for many years in Riverton and her work covers a broad array of art styles and subjects.  The Songbirds will be singing on Friday night.

StillStrollingSaturday is a good time to check out the new exhibit at the Hot Springs County Museum and Cultural Center if you have not already seen it.  The western art of Nick Eggenhofer, an illustrator for Pulp magazine from the 1920s through the 1940s is presented in its own gallery space at the Museum.

The skill and talent of Tom Butler, glass artist, is part of the exhibit as Tom repaired one of the glass panels in the new gallery.

Stollers are encouraged to pick up a map at any stroll business to find the location of artists and activities. Return the map to the host business at the end of Friday evening’s stroll to be entered to win a piece of art work donated by the artists.

The Second Friday ArtStroll and Still Strolling Saturday is organized by Hot Springs Greater Learning Foundation and Smoking Waters Art Guild with additional help from Main Street Thermopolis, Hot Springs Travel & Tourism and local businesses and individuals.
