Take in the Pageant and other activities

As I get older, I realize more and more how everything eventually comes full circle in your life.

This weekend is a prime example for me.

I remember as a kid, selling programs at the Gift of the Waters Pageant for 50-cents through the Girl Scouts. Granted, at the time it was one of those fun things, meeting people from all over the world, but honestly, other than the fancy Native dancers, I didn’t get much out of it.

Later on, it was the Saturday parade.

This was the only parade the Wildcat Band did at home, the end of our season. We always looked sharp while on the road – after all, we were an award winning band, but when we were at home we stood a little taller, played a little better, because our friends and families were along the curb cheering us on.

That feeling of pride never goes away.

Now jump forward 30-plus years.

I’m proud to say I’m the narrator for the Pageant now. And the wonderful thing is, I now understand what it is all about.

If you haven’t been in a while I urge you to come Saturday or Sunday evening to see it again. The fancy dancers are even more impressive than they were so many years ago and the story itself is laced with beautiful vision, a touch of sadness and above all, hope.

Make some memories with your family this weekend. They’re sure to come back to you over and over.
