The 2018 Hot Springs County Fair, “From the Ground Up! Growing Tomorrow’s Leaders Through 4-H and FFA Today!” got off to a start with the WJRA Rodeo this past weekend, and this next week will see plenty of action at the fairgrounds as the main week of fair gets underway.
This Saturday, The Pee Wee Horse Show and 4-H and FFA Youth Horse Show begins at 8 a.m.
Early Open Class Building entries will be 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 30. On the same day, the dog show will be at 6 p.m.
On Tuesday, July 31, Open Class Building exhibits need to be entered at the fair building between 8 a.m. and noon. The fair building will be open for public viewing from 4-8 p.m. Shooting sports for air rifle, air pistol and archery begin at 1 p.m., and the pig wrestling competition will be at 6 p.m.
On Wednesday, Aug. 1, all livestock must be on the grounds and in their stalls — including poultry and rabbits — at 7:45 a.m. Market Goat weighing begins at 7:45 a.m., with Market Sheep, Swine and Beef weighing at 8 a.m. The fair building will be open for public viewing from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
The cat show begins at 10 a.m., and the rabbit show is at 11 a.m., followed by the poultry show. The goat show is at 2 p.m. and the sheep show is at 3 p.m. Fun activities in the evening include the Kiddie Pet Parade/Pocket Pets on Patio at 6:30 p.m. and the Family Fun Nite at 7 p.m. includes inflatables and the music of the Tris Munsick Band.
Thursday, Aug. 2 will see the swine show at 8 a.m., chili cook off at 5 p.m. and beef show at 6 p.m. The fair building will be open for public viewing from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 3 will begin with the round robin competition at 10 a.m., followed by the Parade of Champions at 1 p.m. The pre-sale buyers’ dinner will be at 6 p.m., and the week’s activities will wrap up with the Judges’ Choice Bake Sale and Junior Livestock Auction at 7 p.m. The fair building will again be open for public viewing from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
