Let's keep it going

Well, the PRCA Rodeo and fireworks show have come and gone, and both drew a crowd, but the summer activities here in Thermopolis are far from over.

Coming up next for big events we’ve got the reunion weekend, providing a chance for classmates to get together and reminisce about school and share memories of our town, while also visiting about what they’ve been up to since graduation.

Always a busy place, the fairgrounds will be active in the last couple weeks of July with the WJRA Rodeo, 4-H/FFA Horse Show and Hot Springs County Fair. On top of that, there’s the regular barrel racing and Gymkhana events to look forward to. The end of the month will also see the hilarity of the pig wrestling competition, and August brings with it the smashing action of the demolition derby and even more rodeo action with the Lions Ranch Rodeo.

Not enough for you? Then over in Hot Springs State Park we’ve got Sounds of Summer concert series happening, and the Gift of the Waters Historic Indian Pageant and Big Horn Basin Folk Festival coming up.

While there are too many activities happening in the coming months to mention here, keep in mind that the enthusiasm shown and the crowds brought in already this summer is just the tip of the iceberg.

There’s also plenty opportunity to show our community strength, with a cookie jar auction for John Gerrells, who pioneered the auctions, the downtown farmer’s market and an unique opportunity to host Cycle Greater Yellowstone in August. And though the fireworks show is set and done for this year, it’s not too early to start donating to the fire department for next year’s festivities.

So let’s keep the energy going, make this summer — and the whole year — one for Thermopolis residents, and visitors, to remember.
