Martinez runs for county clerk

Among the candidates for Hot Springs County Clerk is Joe Martinez.

Martinez and his wife Becky moved to Thermopolis in 2004 when he accepted a job with the Wyoming Department of Agriculture as an inspector for Hot Springs County and surrounding areas. They have three children.

Martinez decided to run because it would provide the opportunity to more effectively utilize leadership and management skills developed through his years in government service as well as his time on the Hot Springs County School Board, President of Wyoming Environmental Health Association and board member on the Holy Trinity Vestry.

Martinez served on the school board from 2009-2013, then was re-elected in 2016 to present. He completed a yearlong Certified Public Manager program through LCCC in October 2014. He is still an inspector for the Wyoming Department of Agriculture but his area of responsibility is now in Fremont County, and he works with people on a daily basis and helps them interpret State and Federal rules and regulations.

He plans to utilize teamwork and team building “to ensure we are leading Hot Springs County into the future. Working together with all agencies of the county is critical to the success of each department. I will build and maintain a close working relationship with the County Commissioners in order to help the county find other funding sources to continue improving our infrastructure and community resources.”

Martinez also believes taking extreme ownership is a key to successful leadership. “Anyone can be placed into a leadership role but not everyone can be a great leader. I am willing to take full responsibility for actions and I believe that the team members deserve the recognition when projects and events go well. I look forward to working as part of the team at the county clerk’s office and the county agencies.”
