Leader emerges in softball battle

Last week, a clear “top dog” of the Hot Springs County Recreation District’s Adult Co-Ed Softball League, as The Team We Like The Most (TTWLTM) had a 17-12 win over One Stop Repair on June 26. Both teams were 5-0 going into the game, but when it was all over TTWLTM retained its unblemished record at 6-0, while One Stop took its first win of the season.

Standout players from the game were Amanda Deniz with a 1.000 average, three runs and three RBIs for TTWLTM, and Joe Czarobski with a 1.000 average, a home run, three runs and an RBI for One Stop.

The evening also saw a 13-3 win for Scrub Tops over Robin Batsman. Standout players were Chuck Chrisien with a 1.000 average, five runs and three RBIs for Scrub Tops, and Andrew Ennis with a 1.000 average and three runs for Robin Batsman.

In a make up game, One Eyed Buffalo won 15-8 over Risen Son. Standout performers were Seth Simons with a 1.000 average, three runs and two RBIs for OEB, and Jared Little with a 1.000 average, two runs and an RBI for Risen Son. Scott Harvey of the Risen Son team was also given honorable mention for his inside the park home run.

During makeup games on June 28, TTWLTM extended its lead to 7-0 with a 21-6 win over Scrub Tops. Standout performers with David Evans with a 1.000 average, a home run, four runs and three RBIs for TTWLTM, and Chuck Chrisien with a .667 average, two runs and two RBIs for Scrub Tops.

Also on June 28, One Stop won 8-5 against OEB. Standout performers were Ryan O’Connor with a 1.000 average, two runs and two RBIs for One Stop, and Trevor Birdsley with a 1.000 average, one run and one RBI for OEB.

Paintbrush Dental had a one-run victory, taking Scrub Tops 11-10. Standout performers were Dusty Lewis with a .750 average, one run and five RBIs for Paintbrush, and Chuck Chrisien with a .750 average, three runs and two RBIs for Scrub Tops.

The games last week capped off regular season play this year, with playoff games scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on July 10, 12, 17 and 19. Playoff seedings are: No. 1 TTWLTM 7-0; No. 2 One Stop Repair 6-1; No. 3 Slide One In 3-4; No. 4 One Eyed Buffalo 3-4; No. 5 Risen Son 3-4; No. 6 Paintbrush Dental 3-4; No. 7 Scrub Tops 2-5; and No. 8 Robin Batsman 1-6.

To determine the seedings of the four 3-4 teams, the teams’ records were compared against each other in pool. There were then two sets of two teams with the same record in pool play. Seeding was decided by the regular season matchup between each set of the two tied teams.

The schedule for next week’s playoff openers includes TTWLTM against Robin Batsman at 6:30 p.m. and Slide One In against Paintbrush at 7:45 p.m. on July 10. One Stop will take on Scrub Tops at 6:30 p.m. and OEB will face Risen Son at 7:45 p.m. on July 12.
