E.S.A. members attend state

The state convention of Epsilon Sigma Alpha (E.S.A.) was held June 1-3 in Gillette. Members of Alpha Phi Chapter No. 1148 attending were: Brenda Barnes, Jenifer Grimm, Kendi Heinze, Michelle Herring, Stefanie Ireland, Cindy Magelky, and Linda Ziegler. The following awards were received.

First Place: Outstanding Chapter of the Year 6-15 Members; Gold Link Award for Excellence in Reporting Educational Programs; Distinguished Athenian Award for Educational Director — Shelly Brown; Outstanding Educational Program; Best Reporting Chapter Chaplain — Stefanie Ireland; Best Chapter History — Jenifer Grimm; Best Chapter Skit; Outstanding Philanthropic Project — KZMQ St. Jude Radiothon; Most Money to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; Most Philanthropic Hours per Member; Most Philanthropic Money per Chapter; Most Membership Gained; Outstanding Table Display; Best Chapter Scrapbook; She’s an Oldie but a Goodie — Cindy Magelky, 42 years; Most Individual Participation in Association of the Arts; and Most Chapter Participation in Association of the Arts

Second Place: Most Philanthropic Hours per Chapter; Most Philanthropic Money per Member; Most Money to Easter Seals; Most Money to E.S.A. Foundation/Scholarship; Most Money to Disaster Fund; Most Miles Traveled to Convention; and Best Reporting Philanthropic Chair — Cindy Magelky

Third Place: Most Money to St. Joseph Children’s Home

Association of the Arts — Individual Entries: Jenifer Grimm, First Place Textiles; Ruth Galovich , First Place Kitchen; Kim Enis, First Place President’s Theme “Believe” and Art Outside the Box; and Brenda Barnes, Kendi Heinze and Stefanie Ireland, tie for Third Place Art Outside the Box.

Kendi Heinze received the I.C. President’s “Inspire” award. Cindy Magelky reached the Bronze Plateau of Achievement for the ESA Foundation. Stefanie Ireland and Ruth Galovich were recognized for years of service.

Alpha Phi members installed as state officers for 2018-2019 were: Cindy Magelky — President; Stefanie Ireland — First Vice President; Brenda Barnes — Parliamentarian; Linda Ziegler — Corresponding Secretary; Kendi Heinze — Philanthropic Chair; Michelle Herring — Awards Chair; Kim Enis — Workshop Coordinator; Ruth Galovich — Historian; Jenifer Grimm — ESA Foundation Counselor/Old Faithfuls’ President.

E.S.A. will be holding their annual garage sale at 521 Amoretti on June 29-30. Donated items are being accepted. Call Kim Enis at 864-5278 for more information. They will also be collecting backpacks, duffle bags, and new socks to donate to St. Joseph Children’s Home in Torrington.
