Red tags out for nuisance yards

The abundance of rain in the past week, along with rising temperatures, has got the grass and the weeds growing all over town. Weeds are among the more common items that constitute having a nuisance yard.

Under Section 11-802 of the Thermopolis Town Code, “The term ‘weed’ shall be deemed to include any plant growth over eight inches in height which is not compatible in an area of commercial or residential development or which endangers property or which would burn readily if fired. The common tests of whether a plant is noxious or not and of whether the plant is desired in its location by the owner or occupant of the property shall not be considered.”

Officer Ame Longwell recently placed red tags on the doors of properties that are considered “nuisance” properties. Longwell noted the property owner has 10 days from the tag being placed to address the issue(s) before an official citation is issued. Those cited could face a fine of $750.
