Your source for news in Hot Springs County
Any Wyoming History buff has certainly heard the tales of the Johnson County War, but this Saturday, May 12, the Hot Springs County Historical Society will be hosting a thorough program on the subject featuring Mark Harvey.
Harvey wrote his Master’s thesis on the event and adapted it to a dramatic on-stage production, complete with musical score, presented by the University of Wyoming’s Fine Arts Department in 1992.
The west was never as wild and wooly as in the days of vigilante justice run amok, when the new State of Wyoming experienced a struggle for personal freedoms, pitted against money, power and station.
Harvey chronicles the events, the myths and legends leading up to the Johnson County War of 1892 starting at 2 p.m., downstairs in the Big Horn Federal Meeting room.
The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.
