The Second Friday ArtStroll/Still Strolling Saturday in downtown Thermopolis, May 11 and 12, will feature art of the hunt artists and celebrates Mother’s Day.
Stroll hours on Friday evening are from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The ArtStroll continues Saturday during regular business hours. This is a good opportunity to see some new art and artists and to shop for the favorite “mom” in your life.
This month’s Stroll also welcomes the opening of Sallie Wesaw’s Blue Bison Fine Arts Gallery, at 515 Arapahoe. Wesaw works in many media and has created a new street-level space to showcase her art. She taught for many years in Riverton and her work covers a broad array of art styles and subjects.
Stop by down the street to learn about new crafts from kits, including Diamond Dotz. See how to get the look of needle point and quilting without sewing and see how people have made their own clothes and household items. Andrea Linn and friends will also be demonstrating knitting and crochet and Susan Langford will be talking about healing oils
A featured monthly artist this month is Ronald Roemmich. Roemmich works in metal and makes models of trucks, mining equipment, and decorative objects. He has won awards at the Fremont County Fair for his craftmanship.
View Rita Bishop’s painted feathers and wildlife paintings on saws, along with Angela Siems, with new work portraying the hoodoos just outside of Shoshoni.
Look for the High School Student Art Show, curated by Jennifer Emery, the lead art teacher for Hot Springs County. In Jennifer’s words, “Art education teaches children that problems can have more than one solution and questions can have more than one answer. I believe art class does not exist to produce artists, rather it celebrates that there are many ways to see and interpret the world around us”.
There will also be a pre-Mother’s Day Bake Sale by the Hospital Auxiliary to benefit Hot Spring County Memorial Hospital. In addition, there will be jewelry by Ana Mosser and repurposed Items by Barb Rice
Still Strolling Saturday continues the ArtStroll with artist shows in downtown businesses. Stroll to Big Horn Federal Meeting Room at 2 p.m. for the monthly Hot Springs County Historical Association presentation. Mark Harvey will give a presentation about the Johnson County War of 1892. Light refreshments will be served and the presentation is free.
Stollers are encouraged to pick up a map at any stroll business to find the location of artists and musicians. Return the map to the host business, Blue Bison Fine Arts Gallery, at 515 Arapahoe, at the end of Friday evening’s stroll to be entered to win a piece of art work donated by the artists.
The Second Friday ArtStroll and Still Strolling Saturday are organized by Hot Springs Greater Learning Foundation and Smoking Waters Art Guild with additional help from Main Street Thermopolis, Hot Springs Travel & Tourism and local businesses.
