Bomengen medals at Wyoming Track Classic

This past week saw McKenna Bomengen winning a third place medal in the 3200 meters at the Wyoming Track Classic (WTC) in Casper.

Coach Ernie Mecca explained simply qualifying for the WTC is a major accomplishment, as it means Bomengen is among the top 10 performers in all classes across the state. He noted she actually qualified in the 1600 meters as well, and needed to pick one. He commended Bomengen on her qualifying for the meet and moving up a couple spots from that qualifying spot to take third place.

It was a good week for Bobcat Track and Field, as team members also travelled to compete in Meeteetse on April 27. Mecca explained this is the only meet of the year they do handheld timing, whereas the rest of the meets use Fully Automated Timing (FAT). Nice weather helped for the meets as well.

The tracksters have one meet left, at home on Friday, May 4 beginning at 1 p.m., before Regionals at Douglas, and Mecca said there is still a couple questions they'd like to answer as far as making sure students are in their strongest events and we have our strongest relay teams.

This year's team is a young one, Mecca said, with only three seniors and one of them - Cullen Becher - out with an injury. Continuing to hit double digits for personal records is great, he noted, and both boys and girls teams won the Meeteetse meet; the boys had 127.5 points and the girls had 105.

The coach encourages everyone to come out and support the Bobcats at their home meet this Friday. It is also senior recognition day, and out meet is one of the biggest in the state.
