The Wyoming Tourism Board will be conducting a Thermopolis area familiarization tour, dinner and board meeting on Monday, April 16 and Tuesday, April 17.
The tour will begin at 2 p.m. Monday with a couple stops at Hot Springs County businesses as well as Hot Springs State Park and the Wyoming Dinosaur Center, with a dinner provided by the Office of Tourism. Tuesday will see a Tourism board meeting at 8 a.m.
Diane Shober, the executive director of the Wyoming Office of Tourism, explained the board is appointed by the governor, with nine members — six assigned to districts and three at large. Among its membership is Angie Guyon, the executive director of the Wyoming Dinosaur Center.
Shober further explained the board meets every other month, and the meetings take them to different communities. It was decided to have a board meeting in Thermopolis to get a deeper understanding of the community and the tourism potential here.
As for the familiarization tour, Shober said the board is working with local partners, Guyon and Hot Springs Travel and Tourism Director Amanda Moeller, to look at what the area has and to better understand any challenges and opportunities here. The Tourism Board, Shober said, has a vested interest in growing the visitor economy across the state.
