Kay named Teacher of the Year

During an all-school assembly in the auditorium on Monday, Hot Springs County School District Number 1 announced middle school educator Aimee Kay as the Teacher of the Year.

Kay has served the district's students for 23 years, currently teaching science and coaching volleyball. She is also an EMT with Mortimore Ambulance Service and volunteers with the People for People program.

Superintendent Dustin Hunt had this to say about Kay:

"Before I announce this year's teacher of the year, I want to share a few things I believe in strongly because I believe our teacher of the year emulates these beliefs:

I believe in "owning" it when you are wrong.

I believe in giving it your best, even when someone asks you to do something that you're not fond of.

I believe in leading when given the opportunity, and following when someone has a better idea.

I believe in putting students first.

I believe in being genuinely happy for your colleagues when they succeed or are recognized.

I believe in Thermopolis and the people that live here.

I believe that a lot more is caught than taught and people are influenced a lot more by what you do everyday than what you say.

I believe that while we have many amazing teachers there can be only one teacher of the year."
