On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Correction

In the March 22 edition, the purchaser of Blair’s Super Market should be Eric Mackay, not Eric Mackey. The Independent Record apologizes for the error.

Fire department

Thursday, March 22

2:53 p.m. The department responded to a fire started by a power transformer about four miles south of town on Highway 20 South. There was an estimated 1.5 acres burned.

Sheriff’s office

Thursday, March 22

7:11 p.m. Deputy reported to a report of an assault on Highway 120. Alcohol was involved, but there were no injuries and no arrests. The report has been forwarded to the county attorney.

Saturday, March 24

9:44 a.m. Report of an incident on Highway 20 North of hunters shooting nearby. The hunters were located and informed they had crossed private property. They would not return to the property.

Sunday, March 25

2:49 p.m. Report of four or five guns stolen from the Kirby area.

6:42 p.m. Report regarding an abandoned vehicle.

Police department

Tuesday, March 20

10:57 a.m. Report of a male subject hitting a juvenile in front of the courthouse. The responding officer determined the subject had not been hitting the child.

12:04 p.m. Report of issues with a juvenile female. A report was forwarded to the county attorney.

7:28 p.m. Report of three dogs fighting. The owner was located and cited for three counts of dog at large.

Wednesday, March 21

8:17 a.m. State park reported a vehicle had been at the park for several days. The owner was contacted and plans were made to retrieve the vehicle.

12:48 p.m. Report of a tractor trailer coming into town that was driving recklessly. The driver was contacted and spoken to about his driving.

4:04 p.m. An officer recognized a juvenile under 18 smoking a cigarette and cited the subject.

6:35 p.m. A motorist assist was provided to a motorcyclist.

Thursday, March 22

11:53 a.m. Subject reported his debit card had been stolen and used. The matter is under investigation.

2:28 p.m. Skyler T. McClure was arrested on a warrant.

3:22 p.m. Three vehicles were tagged as abandoned.

Friday, March 23

1 p.m. Aaron M. Munger was arrested for alleged assault.

3:51 p.m. Reporting party stated his son’s debit card was taken and used without his knowledge.

6:31 p.m. A wallet was found at a bank and was returned to its owner.

Saturday, March 24

7:58 p.m. Complainant stated her daughter had come by and taken a dog. The daughter has been served a trespassing notice.

8:20 p.m. Megan J. Schiller was arrested for alleged driving under the influence.

9:57 p.m. A subject went into a business, assaulted an employee and stole an item. Kino R. Beman was found later and arrested for alleged assault, shoplifting and interference with an officer.

Sunday, March 25

10:15 a.m. Complainant reported a door on a trailer was open. There was no sign of forced entry.

Monday, March 26

11:26 a.m. Report of an accident, in which two vehicles backed into each other.

Circuit court

Michael A. Gerber was found guilty of second offense driving under the influence, driving under suspension and property destruction under $1,000 and was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 173 days suspension and six months supervised probation. Fees and fines are $965.

Gregory B. Lea was found guilty of driving under the influence and was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 89 days suspension and six months unsupervised probation.

Alexis D. Jensen was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance and use of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 67 days suspension and six months supervised probation. Fees and fines are $200.
