Help raise money for Sudan well

The Theremopolis Middle School Commons will be home to a fundraiser to help the school’s Water for South Sudan project on Tuesday, March 20 beginning at 6 p.m.

The project began over a year ago in the student family groups of Jacob Strenger and Eric Kay, inspired by “A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park, which gives an account of Sudanese girl Nya and her ordeal in travelling rough terrain for miles jus to draw water for her family from a pond.

The students decided to help raise the $15,000 to sponsor a well in Sudan, but there is still quite a way to go.

The well would help provide access to clean water, which would in turn help send young children to school, bring hospitals and markets to rural villages, and prevent disease and loss of life.

The fundraiser on Tuesday night will include a chili feed, by donation, live music from Kay, a silent auction and students presentations about the story behind Water for South Sudan.

Donations can also be made online via waterforsouthsudan.org by clicking the DONATE! button and noting the donation is for Thermopolis Middle School.
