The freshman and JV girls basketball teams were pitted against the Worland Lady Warriors, and unfortunately, both teams came up short.
The freshman girls came out ready to play, they just couldn’t get any shots to fall, losing to Worland, 29-58.
Three of the team members on the Worland squad shot in double digits, and the Lady Cats were having a rough time with free-throws, shooting just 22 percent from the line.
“Overall, we just had a tough game,” coach Katie Despain said. “I continue to see good things happen with the girls from game to game, which is great to see.”
Emme Norsworthy was the top scorer with eight points, followed by Elisa Weber with five, Jazmen Jensen with four and Dayna Sandberg, Bri DeVries, Jasmine Collins and Reagan Severance all with three points.
The JV team had a rough time, too, dropping their game to Worland, 30-60.
“We never could quite score as much as Worland in each quarter,” Despain said. “In the first quarter we scored 10 to their 17.”
Things got worse after that with the Lady Cats scoring nine to Worland’s 10 in the second, then by the third quarter, the Lady Warriors out shot the Cats, 20-5.
The fourth quarter saw yet another deficit with Worland scoring 13 to the Cats’ six.
“We shot better on the free throw line, shooting 56 percent, we just didn’t have a lot of other shots fall,” Despain said. “The girls played tough defense though and did a lot better with communication throughout the game.”
Aspen Jensen led the scoring with nine points, Hailie Weber and Norsworthy right behind her with six points each.
Bri Devries, Kaylee DeVries, Jazmen Jensen and Audrey Axtell all dropped in two points each, and Sandberg dropped in one from the free-throw line.
