On the Record policy
It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Sheriff’s office
5:22 p.m. Report of a dog killing a neighbor’s chickens. The dog owner was cited for animal at large.
Wednesday, Feb. 7
4:34 p.m. Jerry W. Merritt was arrested for alleged failure to appear at a child support hearing.
8:39 p.m. Deputy responded to a report of a vehicle traveling 103 mph near mile marker 40 on Highway 120.
The driver, Jason L. Christofferson, was arrested for alleged driving under the influence and also cited for speeding.
Saturday, Feb. 10
8:47 a.m. Report of a hit and run accident. A juvenile driver was cited.
12:46 p.m. Complainant reported burning at Gebo. The incident was referred to the BLM Rangers.
Monday, Feb. 12
3:05 p.m. Agency assist was performed with the Department of Family Services.
Police department
Tuesday, Feb. 6
3:30 p.m. Complainant reported a subject was breaking ice out of a gutter and putting it in the travel lane. The subject was contacted and moved the ice to the center of the road.
3:40 p.m. Report of a highly intoxicated male subject at a local business. An associate of the subject agreed to take him home.
6:40 p.m. Caller reported a noise complaint. The officer was unable to locate the source of the noise.
9:38 p.m. An officer responded to and intervened in an argument between a married couple.
Thursday, Feb. 8
3:05 p.m. A male subject was cited for possession of a controlled substance.
4:35 p.m. Subject reported a stolen package, though it was later returned.
6:47 p.m. Report from Casper of a subject who was given permission to use a vehicle but took it places the owner told him not to. The driver gave up the keys and the owner retrieved the vehicle.
9:21 p.m. Officer reported to a call about a family fight, though it was found to be only people talking loudly.
Friday, Feb. 9
12:05 a.m. Report of a subject attempting to gain entry to a building. The subject could not be located.
7:56 a.m. A trespassing notice was served on a subject.
1:05 p.m. Hit and run accident at a local business. The matter is under investigation.
2:18 p.m. Subject reported receiving a scam call from someone posing as the IRS, and was told to block the number.
Saturday, Feb. 10
2:18 p.m. Report of a wallet stolen from a truck.
7:16 p.m. Report from a concerned citizen about a dog that sounded as if it was caught. The officer was unable to locate the dog or hear any cries.
Monday, Feb. 12
6:46 p.m. Report of a property damage accident from the previous day. The damage was under $1,000.
Birth
Kazaria Kathleen Cooper was born Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Tia Macias-Johnson and Willie Cooper of Wyoming.
She weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces, and was 22 inches long.
Grandparents are Eileen Macias and Walt Johnson of Wyoming and Jean Franklin and Darwin Wright of Michigan.
Kevrie Hope Smith to Marie Smith was born Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, Mont.
She weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 20.75 inches long.
Grandparents are Charles and Kim Smith and Carolyn and Mike Conner.
Great grandparents are Joe and Barbara Campbell and the late Charles “Bud” Smith and Dena Smith.
