JV, freshman girls struggle

The Lady Bobcat freshman and JV teams seemed to be stuck on the number 17 last weekend as that was the final score for both teams against Rawlins’ Lady Outlaws.

Due to low numbers for the Lady Outlaws, the JV team was only able to play two quarters, losing 23-17 in Rawlins.

“We came out not nearly aggressive enough in the first quarter,” said coach Katie Despain.

Rawlins, on the other hand, came out ready to play and scored 15 points in the first quarter compared to the Lady Cats five.

The second quarter looked a bit better with the girls digging their way out of the hole, scoring 13 points to Rawlins’ eight, but it just wasn’t enough.

Emme Norsworthy led the JV team in scoring with five points followed by Hailie Weber with four and Elisa Weber and DaniJo Pebbles with three points each. Jasmine Collins rounded out the scoring with two points.

Unfortunately, the freshman girls didn’t fare any better, losing to Rawlins 48-17.

“We didn’t come out ready to play like I was hoping we would,” Despain said.

The Lady Outlaws scored 16 points in the first quarter with the Lady Cats unable to get anything through the hoop.

Despain said they “flat out, out hustled us.”

Things started going better the second quarter, but the girls were still outscored 15-7. The third and fourth quarters, the team continued to get outshot.

“Rawlins has some pretty athletic girls,” Despain said, “that could run their press pretty effectively.

“We were able to get across half court most of the time, but then we couldn’t seem to run our offensive plays to get more shots on the board. Our turnovers were another big issue throughout the game. The girls weren’t ready for their hard press.

“I look forward to a lot of hard work this week in practice to help us become better prepared for Wheatland and Torrington this weekend.”
